Transitions Ministry Center

The Transitions Ministry Center is a new ministry, hosted by the McMinnville First Christian Church, to serve persons experiencing homelessness and unstable housing. These persons are increasing in numbers at an alarming rate in the city of McMinnville, and the issues they face far outpace the current capabilities of the city to address their needs and the resulting problematic outcomes that result.

The first efforts of the Transitions Ministry Center have entailed establishing a partnership with McMinnville Cooperative Ministries, and the Tuesday/Thursday Breakfast program. This involves not only working with Cooperative Ministries, but also Hope on the Hill, YCAP, and Provoking Hope

Beginning in September of 2018, the Tuesday/Thursday Breakfast Program has moved to the Dining Room of the McMinnville First Christian Church. An average of 27 guests are served on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, between 9:00 am - 10:30 am.

As a result of local research, the city of McMinnville's Subcommittee on Homelessness has identified 4 specific goal areas related to unsheltered youth, senior women, veterans and vehicular campers...

Ongoing homeless counts and anecdotal reports indicate these numbers are continuing to grow. The 2018 "Point in Time Homeless Count"  for Yamhill County provides current statistical data.

Locally, those experiencing homelessness and unstable housing are made up of a significant percentage of school-age youth and persons age 50+, for which the Transitions Ministry Center will prioritize for future intensive focus to provide a personal link between available services through an advocate mentor program. This will help those in-need  to focus on areas of their lives that will help them transition into stable living situations.

This is an ambitious project, and it is impossible for it to be a success without support from the community! Please consider helping this ministry succeed through either volunteer service or financial assistance.

If you are interested in serving as a volunteer, please let us know by contacting the McMinnville First Christian Church by phone at 503-472-7227, or email us through the "Contact Us"  link at the top of this page.

City Outreach Ministries

City Outreach Ministries receives donations of clothing, furniture, household and personal items. These goods are donated by caring people and organizations, sorted by our volunteer staff, then given to Yamhill County residents who are in need.

City Outreach was established by New Horizons Church in 1999, and became a ministry of the McMinnville First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in 2009. Continuing to grow, we operate with a volunteer staff of more than 30 people who regularly serve approximately 250 families each month.

Volunteers for this ministry are welcomed, and needed for volunteer teams that spend 3 hours weekly or monthly:
Lead Persons: To oversee and assist in all aspects of the daily operations;
Desk Workers: To greet and check in shoppers and update the computer database;
Sorters & Shelf/Rack Stockers: To process incoming donations and make them available to shoppers;
Children's Workers: To read, play games, etc. while parents "shop";
Spanish Translaters: Approximately 50% of our shoppers speak very little English

Donations Needed: Clothing; Furniture and Small Appliances; Housewares (pots, pans, dishes, silverware); Linens, Bedding & Towels; Children's Books & Toys; Baby Items; Personal Items (Soap, Shampoo, Toothpaste, Toilet Paper, Diapers, Laundry Soap); Food (Non-Perishable Food is always welcome, i.e., tuna, canned fruits, vegetables, soups, peanut butter, pasta, beans, rice and powdered milk); etc. in "good condition."

Financial contributions are welcomed as well... We are in need of financial support to cover monthly rent & utilities, building improvement & repairs, phone, and supplies.

All donations are tax deductible and receipts are provided upon request.
